Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha over the next few days due to a low-pressure system persisting over the north Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay and adjoining coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh within the next 24 hours.
Subsequently, it is likely to head toward West Bengal and North Odisha coasts, bringing widespread rainfall till July 30. The IMD has issued red, orange, and yellow warnings for various districts to alert the public and authorities.
A red warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, predicting extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.
An orange warning applies to Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Koraput, and Malkangiri, expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Yellow warnings have been issued for Deogarh, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nabarangpur, and Angul, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected in Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Puri. Authorities are urged to remain alert.
