Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 24: A 21-year-old second-year BSc Nursing student from Raighar block in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district was shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar in critical condition on Wednesday after attempting suicide by consuming poison. She arrived at the hospital around 4:30 AM and is currently being treated in the ICU. Family members have confirmed that her condition remains extremely critical.

The young woman reportedly took the drastic step on July 17 after enduring months of alleged mental and physical abuse by a former admirer, who later leaked her private photos on social media, causing severe emotional trauma.

Nabarangpur Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Santosh Panda stated that the victim was moved to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar due to her rapidly deteriorating health. He assured that the administration is extending all necessary support to her and her family.

In connection with the case, police have arrested two individuals—Satyajit Sarkar (23), an agricultural science student from Bhubaneswar, and Uddharba Gadanayak, a hospital guard in Jeypore—both seen in the viral images. A special team from Umerkote police led the operation. Satyajit, said to have had an unrequited love interest in the victim, allegedly orchestrated the harassment after rejection.
