Odisha braces for thunderstorms and heatwave conditions over next 3 days

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued thunderstorm activity in several parts of Odisha over the next three days, along with prevailing hot and humid conditions.

According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds are likely to occur during the afternoon and evening hours from May 13 to May 15.

On May 13, thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 40–50 kmph may affect districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, and Ganjam. Additionally, wind speeds of 30–40 kmph may be experienced in Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, and Kalahandi.

On May 14, districts such as Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam may experience stronger gusts, while lighter thunderstorms may occur in parts of central and coastal Odisha. By May 15, thunderstorm activity is expected to continue in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati.

The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for hot and humid weather conditions until May 16, with day temperatures expected to rise by 2–3°C in the coming days. Light to moderate rainfall may continue in isolated areas thereafter.
