Bhubaneswar,(Repoterspen): Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested three more government functionaries in connection with the alleged misappropriation of over Rs 9.24 crore at the office of the Superintending Engineer, Roads and Buildings (R&B) Division-I, Bhubaneswar.
The arrested persons are Krushna Chandra Behera, Senior Accountant at the District Treasury Office, Bhubaneswar; Biswanath Das, Senior Assistant at R&B Division, Puri; and Kumud Sahoo, Peon at R&B Division-I, Bhubaneswar. All three were produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, in Bhubaneswar.
The case concerns the alleged misappropriation of Rs 9,24,10,193. Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station Case No. 21/2026 has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Earlier, on September 27, six accused, including Section Officer Banalata Mohanty and Junior Assistant Bibhudutta Nayak of the same office, were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
According to investigators, Nayak allegedly transferred Rs 3.90 lakh to Behera through 11 PhonePe transactions between March 2025 and July 2026 to facilitate the clearance of fake and fraudulent bills without objection.
Das, who had previously worked as a Junior Assistant in the division, allegedly supplied bank account details belonging to himself, his mother Nayana Das, and relative Kanhu Charan Behera to receive the funds.
Investigators said around Rs 50 lakh was credited to his mother’s account, Rs 15 lakh to his relative’s account and Rs 37 lakh to his own account. Das allegedly transferred part of the money to Nayak and Mohanty through PhonePe and withdrew the remaining amount in cash.
The investigation is continuing to establish the roles of those involved and trace the allegedly misappropriated funds.
