Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 10: In Kendrapada district’s Derabish block, five poultry farmers have been quarantined following the death of chickens on their farms. Health department officials collected samples from the affected farmers on Tuesday and instructed them to remain in home quarantine.
The outbreak of avian flu in the district has resulted in the death of nearly 2,000 chickens, with the carcasses buried in deep pits lined with lime. The High Security Laboratory in Bhopal confirmed that 10 dead chickens from Andara and Balia panchayats tested positive for the H5N1 strain of avian influenza.
To curb the spread of the virus, authorities have begun vaccinating poultry birds throughout the district. Farmers are being urged to vaccinate their flocks at local veterinary dispensaries to prevent further outbreaks.
