Jonk Police Station IIC suspended after major gambling bust in Nuapada

Jonk Police Station: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 25: Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Jonk police station in Nuapada district, Gurudev Karmi, has been suspended for ‘gross misconduct’ and dereliction of duty. The action was taken after a major gambling den in Thelkobeda village was raided on Saturday night, resulting in the arrest of 80 individuals. The raid, carried out by the police, led to the seizure of a significant amount of cash—Rs 50 lakh—along with 25 cars and more than 10 motorcycles.

According to police sources, the gambling den had been operating for several months in a house located near a cowshed. The police locked the main gate from outside before conducting the operation. The arrested individuals were taken to the local police station, and investigations are ongoing.

Following the incident, Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania ordered the suspension of IIC Gurudev Karmi. During the suspension, Karmi will be under the disciplinary control of the DIG of Police, SWR, Koraput. He will also be entitled to the prescribed salary and allowances under Rule 90 of the Orissa Service Code.
