Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen) Aug 15: The Odisha government has announced a groundbreaking policy granting one-day paid menstrual leave to all women employees in both the state government and private sector. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida made this historic announcement during the 78th Independence Day celebrations in Cuttack on Thursday.

Under this policy, women can avail of the leave on the first or second day of their menstrual cycle, providing much-needed relief and support during a time that can be physically challenging for many.

Deputy Chief Minister Parida also revealed that the state government is in the process of formulating a comprehensive Menstrual Health Policy. This initiative underscores the Odisha government’s commitment to promoting women’s health and well-being. She highlighted that this progressive decision has been implemented within the first 100 days of the Women and Child Development Department under the BJP-led Odisha government. The move has been widely lauded as a significant step towards gender-sensitive workplace policies in India.
