odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 27: The Odisha government on Monday appointed retired IAS officer Madhusudan Padhi as the State Election Commissioner. The announcement was made shortly after Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati approved his appointment. Padhi, a 1991-batch IAS officer, replaces Aditya Prasad Padhi, a 1983-batch officer who had held the position since August 2019.

Madhusudan Padhi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Bhubaneswar, and holds an engineering degree in Metallurgy from the Regional Engineering College (now NIT), Rourkela. During his illustrious career, he held several key positions in the state government. As the principal secretary to then-Governor Dr. Ganeshi Lal, he introduced innovative systems such as online invitations for Governor’s programs and e-despatch at Raj Bhavan.

Padhi also served as Principal Secretary in the Rural Development Department, Commissioner-cum-Secretary in departments like Information Technology, Food Supply & Consumer Welfare, Higher Education, and Land Records & Settlement. Additionally, he was the Chairman of Odisha Civil Supplies Corporation and Special Administrator for Kandhamal. His extensive administrative experience is expected to strengthen the democratic processes in Odisha.
