accident: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 24: A heartbreaking accident on National Highway-143 in the Birmitrapur area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district claimed the life of a two-year-old girl on Tuesday. The incident occurred when Abhishek Majhi, his wife Manisha, and their daughter were riding home to Keria, Jharkhand, after completing some errands in Vedavyas.
As the family traveled on their motorcycle, they collided with another bike, causing the child to slip from her mother’s lap and fall onto the road. Tragically, she was then run over by a truck approaching from behind, resulting in her death on the spot.
Following the accident, tensions escalated in the area as local residents staged a blockade, demanding immediate action from authorities. They expressed concerns about the road narrowing due to drainage construction along the highway, which they believe has contributed to frequent accidents. The protesters called for the establishment of a bypass to divert heavy vehicles away from the town.
Police quickly arrived to address the situation, calming the protesters and ensuring traffic was restored to normal.
