IPS Conference : Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 28: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to modernizing the police force, announcing a comprehensive roadmap aimed at making it one of the best in the country. Speaking to reporters during a conference with district Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, Majhi detailed plans to establish a special battalion for the Puri Jagannath Temple and recruit 1,043 additional personnel.
These recruits will also play a vital role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the Rath Yatra festival. Additionally, the state government plans to recruit 2,098 home guards to bolster security.
Majhi emphasized that the government is taking necessary measures to enable police officials to perform their duties effectively. He assured that essential infrastructure and equipment would be provided to facilitate emergency responses.
To enhance operational readiness, 9,000 motorcycles will be supplied, and each police station will receive an additional four-wheeler for emergencies. Furthermore, ten police outposts will be established in medical colleges, and the government will create ten more Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) units, ensuring that each district has one. Currently, the state has 20 ODRAF units.
