Bhubaneswar, (Reporters Pen): Sept 4: In the Odisha Assembly on Wednesday, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra revealed that the state government spent Rs 247.36 crore on the distribution of jute bags across Odisha in preparation for the 2024 general elections.
The announcement came in response to a question from Jagatsinghpur MLA Amarendra Das regarding the government’s expenditure on the manufacturing and distribution of jute bags in all constituencies.
In addition to the jute bags, the government allocated Rs 1,000 to each household, totaling an expenditure of Rs 959.05 crore. Minister Patra noted that there are currently no provisions for providing these bags or financial assistance to individuals who have not yet received them.
This move was part of the government’s broader effort to support households and enhance the state’s readiness for the upcoming elections.
