Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 26: Nischintakoili bar raided: A significant quantity of spurious liquor was seized by Excise department officials during a raid at a bar in the Nischintakoili area of Cuttack district, Odisha, on Thursday. Sources indicate that three individuals have been taken into custody as part of the operation.
Approximately ten officials from Cuttack conducted the raid at a bar situated in the Nischintakoili market along the Cuttack-Kendrapada Road. During the operation, officials confiscated not only the spurious liquor but also caps and stickers typically used for bottling.
The three detainees are currently being interrogated to gather more information about the underlying liquor racket. This crackdown comes in the wake of recent hooch tragedies, including one in Ganjam district that resulted in at least five fatalities last month.
The Excise department has intensified efforts to combat the illegal sale and production of spurious liquor, especially following an incident on August 19 when around 20 individuals from the Chikiti area were hospitalized after consuming toxic country-made liquor, with five succumbing to its effects.
