odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 21: The long-awaited flyover on National Highway-16 at Hansapal in Bhubaneswar was inaugurated on Tuesday by Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi. This significant infrastructure project, initially slated for completion within 18 months, faced considerable delays, taking a total of five years to finish. Construction of the 600-meter flyover began in June 2020.

While commuters traveling from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar have been using the flyover since August of last year, it has now been opened for those traveling in the opposite direction, aiming to facilitate smoother traffic movement. The prolonged construction period involved two contractor changes and led to political blame-shifting, highlighting challenges in project management.

Built at a cost of Rs 24 crore, the flyover is expected to alleviate the long-standing traffic congestion in Hansapal, according to officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

In addition to the flyover, MP Sarangi announced that a foot-over bridge at the accident-prone Palasuni area in Bhubaneswar will be inaugurated in the first week of March, as construction work for this vital safety measure is currently underway. This ongoing development reflects the government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and enhancing road safety in the region.
