Odisha News: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 5: The Odisha government is poised to introduce new guidelines aimed at the effective management and disposal of industrial waste across the state in response to rising pollution levels and associated health hazards. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari informed reporters on Tuesday that the disposal of solid and liquid waste from industrial units has become a significant challenge in several districts.
Minister Pujari highlighted that pollution resulting from industrial waste and effluents has reached alarming levels in districts such as Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul, Sambalpur, and Jajpur. To address this pressing issue, the state government has taken initial steps and plans to hold a high-level meeting at the office of the Revenue Development Commissioner (North) on November 10. The meeting will focus on measures for disposing of ash and other waste generated by thermal power plants.
Pujari also noted that the previous government had granted permission to Vedanta for ash disposal in an abandoned mine area in Lakhanpur, Jharsuguda, but this permission has been revoked due to severe water pollution in a nearby reservoir caused by the dumping of ash. The upcoming meeting will involve detailed discussions to identify suitable locations for the disposal of ash and other industrial waste.
