odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 10: The no-confidence vote against Kirmira Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Krushnapriya Sahu was called off on Friday in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district as none of the Sarpanchs or Samiti members arrived at the voting venue.

Despite elaborate security arrangements, including the deployment of three platoons of police, voting scheduled for 10:30 am did not proceed. Officials, who arrived at the center at 10 am, left after waiting for an hour as the members failed to show up.

Following the development, BJD workers led by former Jharsuguda MLA Deepali Das staged a protest outside the district collector’s office, accusing the police of using unethical tactics to obstruct the voting process.

Deepali alleged that her brother, Bishal Das, a BJD leader and son of late cabinet minister Naba Kishore Das, along with several Panchayat Samiti members, was unlawfully detained by Chhattisgarh police the night before. Bishal’s hotel was searched, and in a video message, he appealed to Odisha authorities to intervene, calling the detentions a conspiracy.
