odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 14: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday inaugurated the enhanced social security pension scheme, fulfilling a key promise from the BJP’s election manifesto. The scheme was launched during an event at DD College Ground in Keonjhar, where the Chief Minister personally distributed the increased allowances to beneficiaries.
Under this initiative, individuals aged 80 and above, and those with a disability level of 80% or more, will receive a monthly pension of ₹3,500, a significant increase from the previous amount of ₹1,200. This measure aims to ensure dignity and financial security for the state’s most vulnerable citizens.
Highlighting the scheme’s importance, Majhi stated, “This initiative reflects our commitment to improving the quality of life for the elderly and disabled. It has started in Keonjhar and will soon be expanded statewide.” The scheme is expected to benefit approximately 4 lakh people across Odisha.
In addition to this initiative, the state government has also doubled the pensions for freedom fighters, recognizing their sacrifices during India’s struggle for independence. These moves underline Odisha’s commitment to supporting marginalized communities and honoring the nation’s heritage.
