Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), March 21: The Odisha Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes as Congress MLAs staged protests over the alleged rise in crimes against women in the state. The demonstrations disrupted proceedings throughout the day, forcing multiple adjournments.

The protest began as soon as the House assembled for the Question Hour, with Congress legislators storming into the Well and attempting to climb the Speaker’s podium. Dressed in black attire, they beat gongs, blew whistles, and shouted slogans, demanding the formation of a House Committee to investigate crimes against women.

Despite repeated attempts to restore order, Speaker Surama Padhy was compelled to adjourn the House multiple times. The uproar prompted her to call an all-party meeting in an effort to resolve the deadlock.

The first adjournment came at 11:30 AM, but when the Assembly reconvened, the protests intensified. The Speaker was forced to adjourn the proceedings again at 12:00 PM as the opposition refused to relent.

With Congress MLAs remaining steadfast in their demand, the session continued to be marred by disruptions, stalling legislative business for the day.
