odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 1: At least six individuals suffered critical injuries in separate incidents of violence during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Odisha’s Ganjam and Balangir districts.
In Ganjam, celebrations turned chaotic at the Gandapalli ODRP Colony under the Rambha police station jurisdiction when a knife attack broke out. Reports indicate that four individuals sustained severe injuries as attackers targeted a rival group, even firing shots into the air after the stabbings.
The injured were initially taken to the Khallikote Community Health Centre for urgent care. However, due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the violence may have stemmed from a love triangle, though authorities are continuing to probe the situation to uncover the precise motives behind the attack.
In a related incident in Balangir, two individuals were seriously injured in a sword attack during celebrations in the Tulsinagar area. This altercation reportedly erupted from a heated argument, leading to one group using sharp weapons against another. The injured, identified as Madhusudan Bagarti and Agnikumar Bisi, were rushed to Bhim Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
