Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 19: A few days after the Commissionerate Police uncovered two SIM box rackets in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda made some surprising revelations. At a press conference on Monday, Panda disclosed that these SIM box rackets have connections to Jharkhand as well.
While two rackets have been dismantled in Odisha, a third one is reportedly active in the neighboring state. Panda indicated that a team from the Commissionerate Police will soon visit Jharkhand to intensify raids and address the ongoing issue.
“During the raids in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, we have seized a total of 12 SIM boxes and 481 SIM cards. Additionally, we found 810 standby SIM cards in the possession of the accused,” Panda informed the media. He added that raids are also underway at various hotels where the main accused, Asadur Jaman, stayed during his visits to Odisha.
Panda explained that the equipment was used to make international and national calls while concealing the source. The devices were also linked to various crimes, including terrorist activities. “With the assistance of Asadur, the arrested Raju Mandal, from West Bengal, operated the SIM boxes from rented properties in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, ensuring that essential services like UPS, internet, and power were maintained,” he added.
