weather news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Feb 20: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for 25 districts in Odisha, predicting heavy thunderstorms and hailstorms on February 21. An Orange Alert has been declared for eight districts, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph, and hailstorms. A Yellow Alert has been issued for 17 districts, predicting moderate rain with thunderstorms and hail.
The IMD has warned that Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Angul are likely to experience severe weather conditions, including strong winds and hailstorms.
Thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely in Bargarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Khordha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, Rayagada, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, and Nayagarh.
The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during thunderstorms, follow traffic advisories in urban areas, and take necessary precautions. Farmers have been urged to use hail nets to protect crops and vegetables.
The weather changes are attributed to a trough extending from north Bangladesh to Telangana across Gangetic West Bengal, interior Odisha, and south Chhattisgarh, which is likely to trigger thunderstorms and hailstorms.
