elephants death: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 18: In a tragic incident, three elephants, including a calf, were reportedly electrocuted after coming into contact with live wires laid by poachers to trap wild boars in the Rairakhol area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district. The carcasses of the elephants were discovered early on Monday morning in the Naktideul range, within the Rairakhol forest division.

While the exact cause of death is still under investigation, it is believed the elephants were electrocuted after accidentally stepping on the live wires set for trapping wild boars. The bodies were found by locals, who immediately informed forest department officials.

Upon receiving the report, a team consisting of forest personnel and police rushed to the site to begin an investigation. The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Susanta Nanda, called the incident “extremely unfortunate” and assured that all efforts would be made to apprehend the poachers. He also acknowledged the possibility of negligence by the elephant patrol squad in the area.

A Joint Task Force, led by the Deputy Conservator of Forests, along with police, has been deployed to probe the deaths. The Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF) has been instructed to ensure strict action against any forest officials found guilty of negligence.
