Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 10: A patient tragically died in a mishap on Tuesday at Nilagiri Sub-Divisional Hospital in Balasore district, which the family attributes to alleged negligence by hospital authorities.
The deceased, Karan Singh from Ambajhar village, had been admitted to the hospital five days earlier. On the day of the incident, Singh sought to use the toilet but found the hospital’s facilities unclean. He opted to use an external toilet, where wires from a broken cable were lying on the ground. Singh’s leg became entangled in the wires, causing him to fall and hit his head on a drain.
Singh lost consciousness and was rushed back to the hospital on a stretcher, but doctors pronounced him dead upon examination.
Singh’s family has accused the hospital of maintaining unclean facilities and failing to address the hazardous conditions around the external toilet. The broken cable, which was part of the hospital’s electrical system, contributed to the accident.
Nilagiri Hospital In-Charge Sarojini Pradhan stated that an investigation will be conducted to determine how the incident occurred. She noted that contractors responsible for electrical work had been instructed to remove the hazardous wires but failed to do so.
