crime news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 8: In a dramatic incident in Odisha’s Cuttack city, two individuals were arrested on Wednesday by Manglabag police for allegedly kidnapping two laborers and demanding a ransom of Rs one lakh. The accused have been identified as Binod Samal from Jobra and Debun Samal from Ghasia Sahi in the Manglabag area.
The case unfolded when the victims, laborers from Jharkhand, who were working for a contractor involved in the expansion of the SCB Medical College and Hospital, had a verbal altercation with some intoxicated youths on January 5 in the Hadia Patha area. Following this confrontation, the two laborers were abducted by miscreants and taken to an abandoned house in the Jobra area.
Once in captivity, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs one lakh from the victims’ families, threatening to kill the laborers if the money was not paid. Acting swiftly on a complaint filed at the Manglabag police station, authorities launched an investigation that resulted in the timely arrest of the suspects. Following their capture, the accused were forwarded to court to face charges related to the kidnapping.
